General

General dentistry is simply the term that describes the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of conditions, disorders and diseases affecting the teeth, gums, jaw and face.

Preventative and gentle dentistry is our core belief; the foundation of good oral hygiene skills will set you up for a life of excellent oral health.

From children’s dentistry through to mouthguards and fillings, we do it all. Emergency? We can help there too.

Please see our General drop down menu for further information on the general treatments and services we offer, right here in the heart of Gympie.

SAME DAY CROWNS CEREC

Same Day Crowns Cerec is simply the name of a computerised system that we use here at Channon Lawrence Dental. It manufactures crowns, veneers or natural looking restorations to replace large fillings. The end result is a non-metallic restoration which looks and feels like natural teeth which is bonded to the existing or remaining tooth structure.

The advantage to our patients is that these computerised restorations are made in-house in as little as two hours and require only one visit for treatment.

We are proud to say that over 15 years ago we were the first practice in Queensland to acquire this revolutionary technology. Our patients have been enjoying the benefits of the Cerec system ever since.

CHILDREN’S DENTISTRY

We are a family orientated practice and as such offer a full range of children’s dental care. Dental exams, preventative dental cleans, at home brushing techniques, fillings and sealants are all offered routinely to our younger patients. More advanced and intricate care is also offered through Myofunctional therapy and traditional orthodontics.

As children’s dental needs are different to those of adults, our team of Oral Health Therapists are specifically trained in general paediatric (children’s) dentistry and provide a positive and gentle educational  environment for your children to learn about good oral health care.

Our team of Dental Hygienists, Oral Health Therapists and Dentists all play differing roles in children’s dental development and care. Our aim is to equip you and your child with all the necessary information and techniques to learn the importance of good dental health and hygiene from an early age.

We understand the anxiousness that many parents and children experience when going to the dentist. Our approach is non-invasive, gentle and positive. We welcome all discussions about the oral health of your child.

CROWNS & BRIDGES

A crown (commonly referred to as a cap) s used to protect the remaining structure of severely broken or fractured teeth. Crowns are often used when large existing fillings need to be replaced. Crowns strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure and can return normal chewing function and appearance.

The type of crown recommended for you will depend on your treatment plan, the position of the tooth and what is best for the long term outcome of your appearance, chewing function and overall oral health.

At Channon Lawrence Dental we offer full porcelain crowns. These are either sent away to our Ceramist to be made in his laboratory or Cerec crowns which are made onsite at Channon Lawrence Dental using high tech computerised technology.

We find that patients often take this opportunity to whiten their surrounding teeth. The new tooth is matched to the whiter, brighter colour.

A bridge is used to replace single or multiple missing teeth. A crown is placed on teeth either side of the space, with the ‘missing teeth’ attached to form a bridge. We use porcelain alone or in combination of porcelain fused to zirconium or gold for strength. Your Dentist will discuss the best choice for your individual needs at your consultation. It may also be recommended that a dental implant is the best treatment option (click here for Implant information).

DENTURES

At Channon Lawrence Dental our aim is to help patients keep their teeth for life. However it is a sad fact that many people have already lost teeth and may need dentures.

It is a removable appliance that replaces teeth. We can replace all the teeth (full denture) or only some of them (partial denture).

Advances in ceramic porcelain technology means you can have beautiful, aesthetic dentures which mirror a natural smile. We can also hide the attachments of the traditional metal hooks used to hold partial dentures in place. They will look natural and you’ll be able to smile with confidence again.

We find whilst being fitted, patients often take this opportunity to whiten the surrounding teeth. The new partial denture teeth can be matched to the whiter, brighter colour.

Implant Supported Dentures – All on 4 – a Modern Missing Teeth Solution

Advances in dental implants means full upper and/or lower set can be ‘locked’ into place with the support of dental implants. Single or multiple missing teeth may also be candidates for dental implant replacement (see Implant information).

ENDODONTICS (ROOT CANALS)

A Root canal (or endodontic treatment) is a process whereby infected or dead pulp is removed from the inside of the tooth. If you are suffering from a painful tooth or have damaged teeth, rather than extract them, we remove the infected or dead insides. This removes the cause of the pain but will enable you to retain your tooth.

Please contact our friendly reception staff to find out more. Call 07 5482 7688 or contact us through our request an appointment page.

EXTRACTIONS/WISDOM TOOTH REMOVAL

A dental extraction is a relatively straight forward removal of a tooth. We may remove teeth due to tooth decay, periodontal disease or dental trauma, especially when they are associated with toothache.

Wisdom teeth can often be impacted which leaves them stuck and unable to grow normally. If beneficial to you we are competent to extract teeth within the practice.

At Channon Lawrence Dental we will discuss with you all available options so you make an informed decision to give you the best outcome.

HYGIENE & PREVENTION

At Channon Lawrence Dental we firmly believe that prevention is the key to long term oral health. We offer all our patients an Oral Hygiene Program.

An essential part of maintaining your natural smile for life is visiting your Dentist and Hygienist for regular treatment. However just as important is how you maintain your oral health between visits.

Our experienced Hygienists will provide you with a personalised dental hygiene plan to assist between visits. These will include dietary advice, advice on how to fight plaque, choosing the right toothbrush, how to floss daily and more.

Please contact our friendly reception staff to find out more. Call 07 5482 7688 or contact us through our request an appointment page.

MOUTHGUARDS

A mouthguard is a removable, soft and flexible shield placed over teeth. They are normally only worn over the upper teeth. They are ideal to protect the teeth when worn during vigorous or high contact sports.

Whilst you can purchase a generic mouthguard from pharmacies, these are a ‘one size fits most’, and as such they generally fit poorly and are uncomfortable to wear. We do not recommend these as they offer little protection to your teeth.

Bespoke custom fitted mouthguards provide your best protection against damage in the event of an injury. We construct this mouthguard directly from a mould taken from your teeth. As these mouthguards are personally customised for you, the fit is snug, much more comfortable and most effective in preventing injuries to your teeth.

We particularly recommend mouthguards for any sport where there is a chance of a knock to the face such as rugby, soccer, martial arts and boxing.

RADIOLOGY

At Channon Lawrence Dental we pride ourselves on offering you the latest technology and up to date radiology available.

Within the practice we offer the latest digital offerings – both 3D digital view x-rays and OPG.

Digital 3D x-rays are a powerful tool in helping us manage and plan correct treatment for a variety of your dental requirements such as dental implants, Tempo-mandibular joint pain management and orthodontics.

An OPG allows us a panoramic view of the lower face displaying all the teeth of the upper and lower jaw on a single film.

Having these forms of digital x-rays available on the premises offers you the invaluable convenience of all your treatment being completed in the one spot.

Please contact our friendly reception staff to find out more. Call 07 5482 7688 or contact us through our request an appointment page.

TOOTH COLOURED FILLINGS

At Channon Lawrence Dental we use bonded composite rather than silver amalgam fillings. The composite material we use is matched to your existing tooth colour to keep your tooth looking natural. By using composite material we are able to repair small chips or broken edges on front teeth and replace smaller amalgam fillings without the need to remove unnecessary tooth structure. We can also reshape front teeth using the resin material to improve your smile.

For large fillings, particularly in the back teeth where chewing forces are greater, we recommend tooth coloured porcelain inlays to add strength and to return teeth to natural appearance and chewing function.

No more unsightly, potentially unhealthy old black or silver fillings.
