Are you thinking about Dental Implants?

It can be difficult to navigate the many options for teeth replacement.

However, Dr Mark Cull, and the entire Channon Lawrence Dental team are here to help you learn, understand, and weigh your options up.

We want you to feel confident and choose teeth replacement that works best for you and your lifestyle.

You should know that Dr Mark Cull has more than 16 years experience placing implants!

In this article, we will be discussing dental implants, just one type of tooth replacement offered at Channon Lawrence Dental. Dr. Mark Cull is highly skilled in placing dental implants.

What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants replace the root of the tooth, then a crown is placed on top.

Implants are an alternative to a bridge or dentures and can be used to replace one or more missing teeth and they can even be used to hold dentures in place.

The benefit of a dental implant is that it integrates with the jawbone to create a strong foundation, and because of the fusion with your bone, they are a strong and can last for a long time.

Types of Dental Implants

Dr Mark Cull and the team at Channon Lawrence Dental offers four main types of dental implants.

1. Single Tooth Implant

If you have only a single tooth that needs to be replaced, a single-tooth implant is an ideal way to restore comfort, functionality, and overall appearance.

2. Implant Supported Bridge

Traditional bridges use existing natural teeth as support and add crowns in-between. In comparison, an implant-supported bridge instead uses implants for each missing tooth. This is preferable for many compared to traditional bridges, which require surrounding teeth to be shaved down for the crowns.

3. Implant Supported Dentures

For implant-supported dentures, attachments are placed under the denture which then connect to the implant, keeping the denture stable and secure. This procedure allows you to enjoy more foods than you can with traditional dentures.

4. The-All-On-4® Dental Implants

The-All-On-4® dental implant is a permanent and long-term solution for those missing multiple teeth. All-on-4 dental implants are a cost-effective and advanced solution to missing teeth developed by Nobel Biocare.

This treatment only uses four dental implants to replace all the teeth on either the top or bottom of your mouth- this simply means that you won’t need an implant for each of your missing teeth! Great news, right?

So what are the benefits of All-on-4® Dental Implant treatment?

1. Natural Look and Feel - All-on-4® treatment provides you with a fixed alternative that looks, feels and functions like natural teeth.

2. Shorter Treatment Times - Where possible, only four implants will be needed by Dr Mark Cull, meaning your treatment time is faster and more cost-effective than other alternatives.

What is the Dental Implant Process?

The first step in the dental implant process is an initial consultation to determine if you are an ideal candidate for them.

Unfortunately, not everyone is able to have dental implants, but it’s not all bad news.

The good news is that Mark is so experienced and exceptionally skilled, if anyone can make it happen for you, it’s Mark!!

Dental Implant Appointments

At least 3 appointments are required

1. At the consultation visit, your dentist will examine your teeth to make sure that this procedure is suitable for you. We will then talk you through the whole process and make sure that all your questions are answered. You will need impressions taken of your mouth. 2. At the next visit, you will have the implant replacement

3. Once the implant has been allowed to fully ‘integrate’ into the jaw bone, the implant restoration is done.

Additional appointments may be needed to complete the dental implant procedure and regular implant check-ups will be needed to ensure that everything is well maintained.

You will be given an estimate of costs and a custom plan based on your needs and timeline.

Before Your Appointment

For the consultation, there is no special preparation needed.

Before the surgical procedure, your dentist or oral surgeon will advise you of any pre-procedure requirements, including:

Pre-procedure medication (as prescribed)

Having someone to accompany you to drive you to and from your appointment

Following any pre-sedation protocols, if this applies to you

If you need a general anaesthetic at the hospital you should:

Arrange for transportation to and from your procedure

Follow any pre-anaesthetic instructions given to you by your oral surgeon

After Your Appointment

Dr Mark and his team will outline post-surgery details for you that are specific to your surgery. You will be given a small “goodies” bag with lots of instructions and information.

We will always check up on you and encourage you to get in contact if you have any worries or questions. We really look after our patients after dental surgery.
